Dimeticone (previously spelt dimethicone in the UK) is a water-repellent substance used in barrier creams to protect the skin.
Wool fat (also known as lanolin) is a waxy substance obtained from the wool of sheep. It provides a layer of oil on the surface of the skin to prevent water evaporating from the skin surface.
Glycerol is absorbed into the skin where it works by attracting water to itself, helping to retain water in the skin surface.
Isopropyl myristate also has moisturising properties. The cream also contains sorbic acid, cetyl alcohol, polysorbate 60, sorbitan monostearate and purified water.
What is it used for?
- Dry, sensitive skin conditions, eg Eczema
- Dryness and fish skin-like scaling of the skin (ichthyosis).
- Overgrowth of the outer layer of skin causing it to become thickened and scaly (hyperkeratosis).
- Psoriasis
