Also known as Tioconazole, this medication is a fungal and yeast destroying cream. Common uses are yeast infections, tinea versicolor, ringworm, jock itch, and athlete’s foot.
How does it work?
This product works by attacking the fungi and yeast cell membranes. It weakens it and causes it to die. Anti-fungal medications target an enzyme known as Lanosterol 14. By doing this it inhibits the production of ergosterol which is an important part of yeast and fungal cell membranes. The drug binds to ergosterol causing ions and molecules to leak out of the cell thus killing it.
How to use?
If using an over the counter version be sure to read and follow the label. When using a prescription from your doctor follow their insturctions. Typically it takes two to six weeks of use to eliminate different versions of ring worm. One to four weeks for tinea versicolor. For yeast infections products vary with a range of 1, 3, 6, and 14 day treatments. It is important to make sure you follow instructions and complete use to make sure the infection is completely destroyed.
Application is a very simple process. The infected area should first be washed and dried. Cover the entire affected area and gently rub it in. Following that be sure to wash your hands.
